Many young Mauritians are trapped in cycles of poverty, addiction, or violence, leaving school with limited education and no skills and face a future of vulnerability.
The Workshop program goes beyond teaching vocational skills like carpentry and sewing; it focuses on mentoring and building life skills to help participants thrive. Through personalized guidance, we help these young people develop the character, confidence, values, attitude and skills they need for lasting change and to lead fulfilling lives.
Hope House sources outlets for the Workshop products, providing vital funding for the program.

Over the last seven years, we have empowered and transformed the lives of six unemployed and unskilled young Mauritian men and two marginalised unemployed young women.o
The participants create highly marketable products such as custom bespoke furniture, picture frames and décor items from recycled wood and a range of unique textile items and clothing.
Here, you can find a sample of outcomes from our Mauritius Skills Development program — people whose lives have changed.
Each narrative showcases how the Workshop can ignite change, shining a light of hope through struggles to end the cycle of poverty.
Matthieu has overcome growing up in poverty and being surrounded by addiction and negative influences. With Hope House’s support and guidance, he is now not only a skilled carpenter, but a responsible swimming and surfing coach. Hope House has uncovered Matthieu’s leadership talent, and he often supervises the Hope House Workshop team during trips to Malawi and Madagascar.
Kenny grew up in Cotteau Raffin, a community marked by poverty and limited opportunities. We offered him a position in our carpentry workshop, where he discovered his potential and flourished. Today, Kenny is not only a skilled craftsman but also a dedicated Sports Coach, playing a vital role in organizing our sports program in Cotteau Raffin. His journey is a testament to the power of opportunity, perseverance, and hope.
Hope House met Sarda and Priscilla in their community, where we set up sewing sessions under a tree. Beyond sewing, we built trust and confidence, leading them to join our sewing department in Bambous. They can now produce a variety of products successfully from job lot orders and support their families financially.
Every contribution you make to Hope House directly empowers lives and sustains the heart of our mission. Your donation supports both the individual participants who are gaining valuable skills and the essential operations that make our Workshop possible.
While sales from our Workshop generate some income, additional funding ensures that we can continue to provide high-quality training, mentorship, and real work experience — all within a safe, well-equipped, and fully functioning environment. This includes covering vital overheads such as rent, water, electricity, transportation, and digital tools that keep our programs running smoothly.
Hope House is a registered charity in Mauritius, and our finances are independently audited each year. As a valued supporter, you will receive an annual report detailing how your contribution has been used to sustain and grow the Workshop programs — helping us transform potential into lasting opportunity.
